From Pitt Township to Washtenaw County's Third-Largest Community
George W. Noyes made the first federal land purchase in what became Pittsfield Township in 1824, and the township organized a decade later, in 1834, as 'Pitt Township' before being renamed Pittsfield in 1839. Residents voted to become a charter township in 1972, and the township is now the third-largest municipality in Washtenaw County.
